By far the most popular type of crimp is the 'F' crimp. This offers support to most types of cable. Another alternative is the overlap crimp which is often used with thin wall insulation cables. This grips the insulation well and, as snagging is unlikely to occur, facilitates insertion into the housing. See figure J for examples of insulation crimps.

Other, less frequently used crimp types are: 'O' crimps which take up a minimal amount of space and are frequently used for bootlace ferrules and ignition terminals; corrugated crimps which are used for latching applications; indent,hexagon, square and round crimps are also used with closed barrels.
